What I’m Watching: Jane the Virgin

Jane the Virgin: Season 2, Episode 12 “Chapter Thirty-Four” (B+)

This show is really getting its themes for its episodes, in this case featuring the recognizable highlighted purple of love for when things just felt real. Some happiness meant plenty of heartbreak for just about everyone, with only one couple making it through unscathed. Rafael confessing his love for Jane after she confronted him for not telling her about his kiss with Petra didn’t go well, and Petra was angry enough with Jane and Rafael for taking pity on her that it seems unlikely that she and Rafael could move on and be happy together after all. Her date with Jonathan was going great until she blurted out that she was a virgin, and there went that. And then Michael swooped in, back in her life now that Rose was dead and could never hurt her again, meaning that #teammichael appears to have won the day. Luisa serving as bait for Rose was a big betrayal, and now maybe Susannah and Luisa can be together after she took a bullet from Rose. Mutter is enemy number one at this point, and I suppose it will be a while before they eventually catch her. Xiomara turning down Rogelio’s proposal even after he said he didn’t need kids was very sad, and it’s going to be hard for him to recover from that. The most surprising and sweet moment of the episode was Alba confessing that she didn’t wait until marriage and regretted it, and that she wouldn’t judge Jane if she decided not to wait anymore.
