What I’m Watching: The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead: Season 6, Episode 10 “The Next World” (B+)

Things still aren’t too violent or vicious in Alexandria, and it’s helping this show maintain a certain calm that feels like it can’t possibly last long. Rick and Daryl happened upon a major find pretty easily, but of course it couldn’t be that simple. Jesus came on in a big, brash way while there was barely anything else going on, literally running into Rick and Daryl and acting far too subdued and casual about everything. Stealing the truck didn’t endanger anyone, it just meant that they had lost this enormous treasure trove of supplies. As usual, being nice to those who don’t seem too threatening backfired, and Jesus making his way to the top of the trunk ultimately led to it driving itself into a lake, ensuring that no one reaps its rewards. I’m surprised that Rick, who was ready to ask him the questions before Daryl told him it wasn’t worth it, was open to the idea of bringing him back to Alexandria, and hopefully he won’t end up being as malicious as Alpha Wolf. Seeing a zombified Deanna was an unpleasant and disturbing sight, nearly as impactful though hardly as shocking as the sight of Sophia emerging from the barn after so long at the end of season two. Carl is back on his feet and doing fine despite his eye, and it’s just a matter of not acting too recklessly and remembering that he’s still a kid. In the biggest unexpected news, we now have a couple that the Internet has already named Richonne – a rare romantic encounter that is actually pretty welcome.
