What I’m Watching: Togetherness (Season Premiere)

Togetherness: Season 2, Episode 1 “Hotels” (B+)

I had almost forgotten all about this show too, and I’m so glad that I didn’t. This was a truly superb premiere, jumping back into things and explaining what it is that’s ailing all of its characters at the moment. Interestingly, both of the men are in really good places, but the women in their lives are having a lot of trouble adjusting to the fact that things are normal. First we have Alex, who has landed the role of his life and is having a lot of fun doing it. He’s in a great committed relationship with Christy and seems like he’s gotten over Tina. While she and Larry seem happy, Tina went way overboard to get Alex a great gift and won’t leave him alone. I love how honest Alex was with Tina when she confronted him by the ice machine, and though it was pretty devastating for her, it’s great to see such true feelings aired out in the open. That’s what Brett seems to be doing too, but he’s so oblivious to the fact that Michelle isn’t happy that he’s going to be in for a rude awakening once she confesses the truth to him. Tina made a good point when Michelle blurted out that she slept with David, which is that everything might be fine if she doesn’t tell him. What’s great about this show is that it is far from a conventional sitcom, which makes me so interested to see how things progress and to hope that all four of our major protagonists will come out of these complicated romances okay.
