What I’m Watching: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Season 1, Episode 12 “Josh and I Work on a Case!” (B+)

It’s awkward now to see Rebecca trying to so hard to be able to spend time with Josh, but, as usual with this show, it manages to make the most of this situation and turn it into something more compelling than it should be. What was new about this episode was that Greg decided that he was no longer on Rebecca’s side, not content to be upset by her obsession and apparently feeling the need to help expose her to Valencia. I can’t understand why he would go down that path, but maybe it’s that he believes it’s best for Rebecca. Either way, Josh isn’t being too cruel, but he is being manipulated by everyone around her. What made this all great was that Rebecca managed to make a major case out of it with help from Paula and Darryl. It’s also great to see more going on with Darryl and his unexplored sexuality, with the hilarious revelation that he might be attracted to both sexes confirmed by a flurry of people saying “bye” to each other at just the right moment. It does track that White Josh’s nickname should be Gay Josh, but of course it’s not. Who would have expected that union? I’m intrigued to see how it goes over with Rebecca, Paula, and Josh Chan, and I think it will just be a productive way for Rebecca to be able to spend more time with her Josh in a manner that’s not quite as unfortunate and impersonal as a group hang, a concept that made for a fantastic musical number.
