Emmy Nominees: Best Directing for a Drama Series

My predictions: 2/6, but I did get both “Game of Thrones” episodes

The nominees: Episode 9 (Downton Abbey), Battle of the Bastards (Game of Thrones), The Door (Game of Thrones), The Tradition of Hospitality (Homeland), This Is All We Are (The Knick), Exsuscito (Ray Donovan)

It’s no surprise that this category includes two very strong episodes of this season of Game of Thrones. The show won this award last year and very well could again this year. I didn’t think it would make the cut but I did choose the right episode of Homeland to predict, an early installment that was decent if hardly spectacular. The series finale of Downton Abbey placing could have been anticipated given that the show was nominated three years in a row in this category before being snubbed last year. The season finale of The Knick was directed by Steven Soderbergh, who was nominated for the pilot last year. I’m thrilled to see Ray Donovan honored for its season finale – it’s great to see the show get some deserved recognition. But how is “Mr. Robot” not here? And “Narcos” for that matter, even though that wasn’t a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination.

Who should win? “Battle of the Bastards,” no question
Who will win? “Battle of the Bastards”
