Grace and Frankie: Season 2, Episode 8 “The Anchor” (B+)
At the start of this episode, I felt like we were seeing Frankie at her most Frankie-like state. Her glee at receiving the product samples of her yam lube to be able to select the marketing design she liked best sent her to her happiest place, and she really was having a grand old time, gloating to Grace and ignoring most of what she was saying. Her excitement faded quickly once she realized that her product had been corrupted, and the follow-up wasn’t pretty. Smearing blood all over her hands to symbolize the horror of what they were doing was excessive to be sure, and the most interesting result was the reaction it prompted in Brianna. She expressed mainly disapproval and disappointment at Frankie’s inability to take herself seriously and understand how business works, and that’s going to be a tough relationship to repair. Grace’s date with Phil didn’t go so badly, starting with a flirtatious drink order, interrupted by an attempted confession, and then resolved with a longer explanation. Seeing Sol camping out in the living room with his sons was fun, and hopefully his visit to reclaim his clothes at his house will tip his reconciliation with Robert in the right direction. The number of messages he left on Robert’s voicemail was quite extreme, but at least he’s pouring out his heart and getting closer to really showing Robert how much he cares and how sorry he truly is. They have to make up sometime, and though there are still a number of episodes left this season, I hope it’s sooner rather than later.
