Emmy Predictions: Best Writing for a Drama Series
The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Do Mail Robots Dream of Electric Sheep (The Americans), Five-O (Better Call Saul), Mother’s Mercy (Game of Thrones), Lost Horizon (Mad Men), Person to Person (Mad Men)
The competition: This category isn’t as fond of pilots as the corresponding directing race. Still, I think that a few pilots might contend, namely “Billions,” “Mr. Robot,” “Narcos,” “The Path,” and “Underground.” There are so many different “Better Call Saul” installments that were submitted, and I’d say that the best bets are Amarillo, Nailed, and Switch. “The Americans” scored its first nomination last year and might return again for Persona Non Grata. “Downton Abbey” might be back for Part Eight, “Homeland” could contend for All About Allison or other hours, and “Orange is the New Black” might be nominated for Trust No Bitch. I’d count on Battle of the Basterds to represent defending champ “Game of Thrones,” and it’s possible that Episode 103 could earn a nomination for “Horace and Pete.” Past nominee “The Good Wife” could be back for its series finale End. This year, there will be six nominees instead of the traditional five.
The predicted nominees: Amarillo (Better Call Saul), Pilot (Billions), Part Eight (Downton Abbey), Battle of the Basterds (Game of Thrones), eps1.0_hellofriend.mov (Mr. Robot), Descenso (Narcos)
The predicted winner: Mr. Robot
