What I’m Watching: Veep

Veep: Season 5, Episode 9 “Kissing Your Sister” (B)

I was suppose it was inevitable that we would see the finished product that Catherine had been working so hard all season to make when she was constantly filming and getting yelled at by her mother for being in the way. I love that she chose such a hilariously inappropriate title that describes her situation in so many ways. I’m not sure this was the best format in which to cover the historic vote that appears to have left Selina without the presidency since, even with the inept Jonah making it to the floor just in time, she didn’t get the twenty-six votes she needed to become president. Naturally, it was Selina’s selfishness that came through most as she reacted to the impossibility of her running again since Tom would become president, and that was on full display when Catherine was crying about the end of her relationship between Marjorie brought her home to Montana and introduced her as a special friend. Mike really has become the punching bag of the White House, and it’s a shame that everyone seems to know that he’s out and has in fact already been replaced. Catherine stopping by the prison to interview Bill and get his take on everyone in the White House was entertaining, and he managed to fire off a handful of barbs in a short time, coming close to the level of depravity that the incomparable Roger Furlong inhabits on a regular basis and certainly in this episode with his few choice appearances.
