The competition: Rami Malek’s antisocial hacker (Mr. Robot), Bob Odenkirk’s wannabe lawyer (Better Call Saul), Matthew Rhys’ Russian spy (The Americans), Liev Schreiber’s Hollywood fixer (Ray Donovan), and Billy Bob Thornton’s sardonic lawyer (Goliath).
For your information: This year, we have three returning nominees from last year, up from just one last year. Schreiber earns his fourth consecutive bid this year, with Malek and Odenkirk back for their second nominations. This is Thornton’s sixth career Globe nod, and he won for his only previous TV bid for “Fargo” two years ago. This is Rhys’ first nomination. Interestingly, none of these actors star in shows recognized in the Best TV Series – Drama category. Jon Hamm won this award last year.
Who should win? Malek, Odenkirk, or Thornton
Who will win? If Malek was going to win, it would have been last year. Odenkirk would actually deserve it a lot, but I think it will be the only freshman in the race, the equally great Thornton.
