The competition: Sterling K. Brown’s Christopher Darden (The People vs. OJ Simpson), Hugh Laurie’s arms dealer (The Night Manager), John Lithgow’s Winston Churchill (The Crown), Christian Slater’s anarchist (Mr. Robot), and John Travolta’s Robert Shapiro (The People vs. OJ Simpson).
For your information: Slater won this award last year and is also the only one whose show aired last year. Brown won an Emmy for his role and also stars in Best TV Series – Drama nominee “This Is Us,” which should give him added momentum. This is Lithgow’s fifth career nomination, and he won his second of two awards in this category in 2010 for “Dexter.” This is Travolta’s seventh career nomination, and his first for TV. He won his second award in 1995 for “Get Shorty.” Laurie won twice for “House” out of six nominations. All but “Mr. Robot,” which won the Best TV Series – Drama prize last year, are nominated for the corresponding top prize.
Who should win? I’ve only seen Slater’s work but he’s great!
Who will win? I feel like it will be Brown given his buzz right now.
