The competition: Caitriona Balfe’s time-traveling nurse (Outlander), Claire Foy’s Queen Elizabeth (The Crown), Keri Russell’s Russian spy (The Americans), Winona Ryder’s frantic mother (Stranger Things), and Evan Rachel Wood’s advanced host (Westworld).
For your information: This year, we have just one returning nominee, and that’s Balfe with her second consecutive nomination. Russell is finally here for the fourth season of her show, returning after a win in this race eighteen years ago for “Felicity.” Wood has been nominated twice before, once for film work and once for TV. Ryder has two previous nominations, including a win for “The Age of Innocence” in 1993. This is Foy’s first nomination. Foy, Ryder, and Wood all have their shows nominated for Best TV Series – Drama. Last year’s winner, Tajari P. Henson, isn’t nominated this year.
Who should win? Like last year, I watch only one of these shows, Wood’s, and so I don’t think I’m qualified to make a judgment.
Who will win? I think this could be a good place to reward Foy or Ryder, but I have no clue.
