Life in Pieces: Season 2, Episode 9 “#TBT: Y2K Sophia Honeymoon Critter” (B-)
These vignettes weren’t so bad, but it did seem a bit random to flash back to scenes from the past that feel hopelessly dated and unrealistic given the wigs that all of the actors were wearing. It was definitely fun to see Heather trying to advocate for how smart her guy Tim was and for John to constantly respond with the same refrain about him not being smart enough to wear a condom. I didn’t buy Heather and Tim as hippie, health-conscious parents who didn’t own a TV and didn’t let their kids eat anything bad, but Matt taking them to a bar and filling their heads with music ideas and french fries made a whole lot more sense. Those parents are the kind to overindulge in something, and therefore their break with manufactured tradition and descent back into unhealthy living was predictably grand and excessive. Greg’s inability to realize that he’s far too connected to his mother was nothing new, and of course he would fail to pack properly for his honeymoon and end up not bringing many items that he needed was an expected consequence. I’ll admit that I’ve done that in the past to a lesser extent - really just the collared shirt and dress pants. Matt being encouraged by his father to get a job that paid in peanuts (I think that was a metaphor) led him to a place that wasn’t too bright, but he did manage to meet Colleen, which as we know is the happiest ending of all to come from all of this that happened a while ago.
