Golden Globe Winner Predictions: Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series

The competition: Olivia Colman’s intelligence operative (The Night Manager), Lena Headey’s humiliated empress (Game of Thrones), Chrissy Metz’s struggling sister (This Is Us), Mandy Moore’s devoted mother (This Is Us), and Thandie Newton’s advanced host (Westworld).

For your information: Not only are all five nominees new to this race, they’re all first-time Globe nominees! Colman is the only one representing a miniseries, while Metz, Moore, and Newton star in freshman series. Three-time Emmy nominee Headey also joins this race for the first time. All projects recognized here are also nominated for the corresponding top prize. The last three times more than one performer was nominated for the same series in this category, neither won, but it has worked out better for others in the past, which might be good news for either Metz or Moore.

Who should win? I haven’t seen Colman’s work. Otherwise, I’m totally in the Newton camp this year.

Who will win? It’s not clear who it will be, but I think that Newton has the advantage.
