Rebel: Season 1, Episode 10 “36 Hours” (B+)
Just like its characters did an extraordinary job of coming up with the information they desperately needed in the little time they had until the trial concluded, this show did a formidable job of making the most of its final hour. Things wrapped up in a way that felt right while opening the door for an intriguing potential second season, one that I would have been perfectly excited to see but sadly won’t come to pass. It was relatively obvious that, once they figured out they were looking for a storage unit, they should have thought more about the fact that he mentioned a cat and found that right away rather than wasting many hours on almost no sleep. But there’s a degree of predictability to this show that I didn’t find problematic, and it’s nice to know that all of the characters – aside from Angela – were pretty much eligible for redemption. Sean rescuing his brother from an abusive foster care situation won Ziggy over, though it’s not clear how legal what they did was, but they have Rebel on their side, so things are likely to work out. Even Cassidy was able to prove that she was still noble after they lost the case, and even Benjy got to come over and celebrate following his loss, which sounds miserable but passes for normal in this show’s wild world. I’ve enjoyed it while it lasted, and it’s great to see so many talented actors in one place clearly having a great time. Let’s see them on new shows again soon!
