Emmy Predictions: Best Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, July 13th. As always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Shirley (Mrs. America), Episode 3 (Normal People), Episode 1 (Unbelievable), Part 1 (Unorthodox), This Extraordinary Being (Watchmen)

The top contenders:
Coastal Elites
The Comey Rule
Welcome to the Alternate Economy (Fargo)
Last Words (The Good Lord Bird)
Halston
I May Destroy You
It’s a Sin
Mare of Easttown
Oslo
The Queen’s Gambit
Roadkill
Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia
Mangrove (Small Axe)
Red, White and Blue (Small Axe)
Sylvie’s Love
Uncle Frank
Chapter 10: Mabel (The Underground Railroad)
The Undoing
Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience (WandaVision)
Previously On (WandaVision)
Part Ten (Your Honor)

I’m truly baffled by the submission strategy here, especially as it corresponds to the directing race. WandaVision, for instance, is considered one entity for directing, and yet a full eight (!!!) of its nine episodes are individually listed here. I May Destroy You, on the other hand, is one project here, and Small Axe has its two highest-profile films separated out. The Underground Railroad also only has its finale entered. The likely frontrunners here remain The Queen’s Gambit and Mare of Easttown, though I imagine we’ll see some surprises.

The predicted nominees: I May Destroy You, Mare of Easttown, The Queen’s Gambit, Mangrove (Small Axe), Chapter 10: Mabel (The Underground Railroad), Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience (WandaVision)

The predicted winner: I think this goes to The Queen’s Gambit.

Next up: Best TV Movie
