What I’m Watching: Barry

Barry: Season 1, Episode 7 “Chapter Seven: Loud, Fast, and Keep Going” (B+)

What I love most about this show is how likeable these mobsters and hitmen are, with Goran and Hank both devastated to hear that Barry had been taken out in his attempt to pull off their hit. Goran was also surprised to discover that the Bolivian they ripped off and tried to kill was actually a nice guy, and they spent quite a long time on the recorded phone call discussing self-help books after he told Goran that they were going to have to go to war. Fuches and Hank had a good talk over the phone about how much they missed Barry before Noho told Fuches they’d have to kill him too, and still no one knows that Barry is actually still alive. Getting Taylor and his other buddy killed while only Chris and Barry made it out okay should have solved more than one problem, but instead it got Chris so riled up that Barry had to shoot him at close range in the car to prevent him from going to the cops. Barry going on stage to say his one line in tears was incredible, and it prompted Sally to give the best performance she’s ever given, earning her a meeting with the agent that she so desperately wanted. Being told by Cousineau to tap into whatever helped him get to that place wasn’t a good thing for Barry, who is feeling more alone than ever and is going to have to spin a pretty good story to get a certainly suspicious Detective Moss from arresting him as the only acting student with a military background.
