Jessica Jones: Season 2, Episode 9 “AKA Shark in the Bathtub, Monster in the Bed” (B+)
It makes sense that Pryce would be the one trying to take out Jessica’s mother, not aiming for the superpowered private investigator he doesn’t like but the more out-of-control woman he perceives as a monster for killing his friend. Though she killed Kilgrave, as her mother pointed out and she acknowledged, Jessica has a moral code, one that’s a bit more bearable than the one currently being espoused by both Supergirl and the Flash on their respective CW shows, not to kill anyone. Her notion that kidnapping was no worse than attempted murder didn’t win Pryce over since he was never after her, and, as she kept saying throughout the episode that this was how she got her mother, it’s also how she lost her, with Alisa slowing down after Jessica pleaded with her and then surrendering peacefully to the police. It was cool to see them work together to stop the bus with Oscar’s kid on it from pulling away, and I would love the idea of seeing the two of them as superheroes, something that Alisa thought could work despite her more primal urges. Trish, frustrated with Jessica’s seeming unwillingness to continue digging into IGH, went on a fantastic rant against gluten on air, and now she may have a chance to do that all the time, but since her inhaler has run out, she may be hitting rock bottom sooner than expected. Hogarth’s dreams of going to China with Inez may be premature, but it sure looks like she’s about to be healed, which may return her to being the cutthroat, unsympathetic lawyer she so recently was.
