What I’m Watching: Legion

Legion: Season 2, Episode 5 “Chapter 13” (B+)

This episode left me feeling much more disturbed than I usually do, mainly because it showed a true evil that we hadn’t seen before which really hit David in an irreversible way. Farouk seemed to be almost a kindred spirit, trying to get his body back but happy to converse with David in his mind and eager to negotiate so that they could both get what they wanted. Lenny getting her body back is immensely intriguing since she was a character who we never actually knew if we were seeing or whether it was Farouk the entire time, and now we have the chance to get to know this crazed individual who has been without a body of her own for a while. I was very happy to see Amy again since I thought she was an underused but crucial part of the first season, but as Ben could tell, there was something very unsettling going on, which turned out to be a horrific torment which resulted in Lenny being reborn into Amy’s body, killing her in the process. David, convinced by Future Syd to help Farouk, is now going to be on the warpath, and Lenny is going to find herself left very much alone and resented by the one person she was happiest to see. We also have Oliver, who declared that nothing has felt real for him for a very long time, determined to kill Farouk, claiming that he has found his weakness and will use it against him. Most accurately, Jon Hamm’s narrator introduced this episode with a clever modification of the traditional “previously on,” stating instead, “apparently on,” reflecting back that no one has any idea what’s really going on here.
