Peacemaker: Season 1, Episode 6 “Chapter 06: Murn After Reading” (B+)
This was a very clever title, though Murn really wasn’t the focus of the episode once Harcourt showed up and said that she had found out about his identity a while ago. Getting to know a good butterfly was important as we saw what the bad ones do, with Goff trying to make peace from inside his jar and then taking a much more hostile approach to Peacemaker as soon as he was able to escape and inhabit a new body. Sophie’s doggedness is ultimately what did her in, and while I’m sad that she’s no longer a part of the show since her quips were among its most entertaining assets, at least she gets to play a different character now who’s likely to have just as much snark. That was quite the alien invasion, with all the butterflies arriving in their tiny little flying saucers and then flying in to kill all of the police officers and inmates. I thought that Locke, who apparently was quite terrible given his mockery of the officer begging for her life before he shot her, getting the journal was going to negate what Leota had done, but when he too became possessed by a butterfly, he used it in the most destructive way possible. It’s going to be hard for Peacemaker and the rest of the team to survive now that everyone is looking for them, but as long as he keeps his helmet on and can tell who’s a butterfly, thing should be okay. Harcourt putting the dove of peace on his weapon and sharing her first name were important signs of human contact that he could use, especially considering that Vigilante really is not bright at all.
