What I’m Watching: Limitless

Limitless: Season 1, Episode 15 “Undercover!” (B+)

This show, like its protagonist, is somewhere between schizophrenic and easily distracted. In this case, that’s a good thing, but it’s still astounding just how many different styles and formats this show has employed in less than one full season already. This episode even used a few of them just in one hour. Interviewing the members of the team as a way to recount the story of the undercover (!) operation was helpful, and Brian got more than a little off track over the course of the entire thing. Naturally, Brian managed to track down all the undercover agents very quickly, and he went himself to the place that he knew Lucy Church would show up. She didn’t waste much time in enlisting the man-child to help her out for the next two days while she refused to come in even though her cover was about to be blown. She was quite the guest character, and I like how she and Brian ended up together despite Lucy’s obvious belief that he wasn’t terribly bright or mature. It’s always great to see Brian work a room, and he did so well making friends – and enemies – when he went to the fancy event with Lucy. Sands approaching Rebecca with a job offer as the only logical alternative to taking her out was bold, but not nearly as much as her decision to come back at him with an outright refusal to be bought and a challenge of sorts to deny his own corruption and guilt. That definitely puts her in harm’s way – hopefully Brian will be able to protect her.
