Call Me Kat: Season 2, Episode 4 “Call Me Forty” (B+)
Oscar really does know Kat well, and he did a great job of engineering a series of surprises for her fortieth birthday. Kat had reason to be nervous meeting Oscar’s mom due to past traumas like setting a rug on fire, and she did get off to a bad start by lying about speaking Spanish and then spilling water all over her. But she ultimately put on the best show she possibly could, but that still wasn’t good enough since Mary had no interest in them being together because she thought Kat was too old. It was sweet that Oscar immediately rose to her defense and then made light of the situation by shouting that he loved her so that he she could hear him. Max’s flirtation spiral was a lot of fun to watch, particularly when he came on way too strong to women he had just met. Experiencing the same thing from the other side showed him just how intense that was, and Carter’s intervention was definitely needed. I didn’t expect to hear Brigitte referenced since it’s been so long since anyone brought her up, and I’d love to see her again, though it’s probably best for Max to move on with someone new. The cat subplots are never my favorite part of this show, but I did appreciate the fact that Randi sought to cheer Phil up and remind him of Cat Sajak by making a mess that he would then have to spend time cleaning up.
