What I’m Watching: Ringer

Ringer: Season 1, Episode 15 “P.S. You’re An Idiot” (C-)

This show’s obsession with twists is being incredibly tiresome, mostly because they just don’t track with the way that the characters have been presented to this point. One thing this series does do is show events from the perspectives of multiple characters, and therefore there’s no excuse for pulling the rug out from the audience when we’ve already seen what’s underneath. From the moment that Katherine was revealed to have been in on the plan to extort Andrew, it was obvious that she, and not Mr. C, was responsible for Tessa’s beating. Added to the list of Mr. C’s unexpected and unlikely traits is the fact that he was sleeping with Katharine, who proves to be the most despicable character on a show full of such people, surpassing even the scheming, manipulative Olivia. This vow renewal business is unnecessary, and it should have led to Bridget telling Andrew who she really is, something about which he would most certainly not have been happy, rather than the entirely unforeshadowed revelation that he orchestrated a Ponzi scheme. This show is spinning too wide a web, and it’s going to be hard to get untangled. Malcolm’s blatant trailing is irksome, and Henry acting as a puppet for Siobhan isn’t much better. Prior to this whole Ponzi scheme business, Andrew was the most clueless of them all, smiling and eating cake like there was nothing wrong with the world. This show is running straight through March and April until its season finale, and I can’t really imagine where it’s all heading.
