Take Three: Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency: Season 1, Episode 3 “Rogue Wall Enthusiasts” (B+)

Yeah, I like this show a lot. This episode worked on a number of levels, and I love the music that goes along with it, particularly when Ken and Bart appear on screen. Bart’s complete misconception of the radio was fantastic, and her excitement at Ken’s ability to predict what the radio was going to say next was really something. She also saved the day in an awesome way when the rock thrown at Ken ricocheted off the fence she was taped too, freed her, and then allowed her to kill everyone, including the guy who threw a knife at her which just bounced right off. His remark that she really was who she said she was and that it was real was perfectly matched by Todd’s exclamation just a few scenes later about Todd. Colonel Riggins showing up and frightening Dirk grounded everything in a peculiar and mysterious way, and there’s definitely plenty of mischief and oddity afoot. Dirk’s comment that he doesn’t know anything ever, which is quite relaxing, was hilarious, and the interactions of all the characters, particularly Farah and Dirk, is simply superb. It was great that the Rowdy 3 came to Amanda’s rescue after she imagined herself catching on fire at the supermarket, and that relationship is fascinating. I saw Aaron Douglas’ name in the cast when this show first started but only recognized the "Battlestar Galactica" star for the first time this week as Gordon, who isn’t happy in the slightest about his new body. I’m pumped for episode four.
