Easy: Season 1, Episode 7 “Chemistry Road” (B+)
Now here’s an episode packed with great actors. We have the return of Michael Chernus’ Kyle and Jane Adams’ Annabelle, and the addition of Jake Johnson from “New Girl” and Gugu Mbatha-Raw from “Undercovers” and “Belle,” as well was Jake Weber from “Hell on Wheels” (and “Medium,” but I hate that show). This was a very multi-faceted episode that started with one couple that was going through what appeared to be a sort of separation, if only a physical one, and then led into another person’s feelings of longing for romance, prompting her to reengage in a relationship from her past. I think that Adams is a wonderful actress, and I miss “Hung” so often, especially when I see her in a role like this that demonstrates that her comedic-dramatic talents. I also really like Mbatha-Raw, and it was great to see her playing an actress alongside Kyle and Annabelle, who was completely ready to move across the country for a role, if only as a way to get away from a live-in relationship that wasn’t working anymore. Drew made the powerful point that it would be nice if Sophie cared as much about working on their relationship as she did about advancing her career, and it seems that success can be a lonely place for a single person, especially when news about friends being pregnant prompts comments from others about how old they are and how much of a hard time is in store for them. I’m not sure what the message of this episode was supposed to be with all the lingering shots on what Sophie was doing or seeing, but I liked it!
