What I’m Watching: Timeless

Timeless: Season 1, Episode 5 “The Alamo” (B+)

One way to deal with getting fired is to go back in time and then volunteer to take one for the team and end up dead more than a hundred years before you were born. It’s never a good idea to send someone on a last mission after you’ve told them that they’re being relieved of duty, and it seems that was the least of Wyatt’s problems as kept hallucinating his fellow soldiers as he was preparing to defend the Alamo. Lucy complimented her effective rewriting of the famous letter that inspired the founding of Texas with an equally stirring speech to make clear to Wyatt that he’s a valued member of their team, and her resignation threat coupled with Rufus’ has now saved his job and helped him feel more committed to the cause. I expected that Flynn was going to show up to help our heroic three figure out a way to get the women and children out after his recommendation was not fully adopted, a move that would have made his villainy come into question. Instead, he didn’t even meet our heroes in this hour, and they spent their time drooling over the likes of Davy Crockett, played very well by Jeff Kober from “Sons of Anarchy.” Rufus in particular bonded with him and learned that he didn’t actually wrestle a bear, and it was nice to see Rufus not out of place as a black man in American history thanks to Mexico’s earlier termination of slavery.
