What I’m Watching: Supergirl

Supergirl: Season 2, Episode 4 “Survivors” (B+)

It’s nice to know that, with plenty of extraterrestrial enemies, there are also some new friends to be found for the good guys on planet Earth. Mon-El is definitely the most trustworthy of them all, coming in very handy with an Achilles’ Heel fighting tip for Kara. That the worst he could do was make Winn let him out of the DEO and take him on a drunken bender where he didn’t even really hurt people with his super-strength makes him relatively innocuous, and he’s going to help be a friend to Kara to make her feel less lonely. Learning Earth-speak from Winn is an added entertainment bonus. We thought that was going to be the case with Megan, the other Martian, but then she went ahead and helped her nefarious employer capture Hank so that they could fight to the death. Their moment at the end of the episode seemed to indicate that they were getting to a good place, but it appears that some other being has taken Megan’s form, which is troubling given the intimate relationship Hank is trying to forge with her. It was good to see Dichen Lachman from “Dollhouse” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” as Roulette, who I imagine will be back, and Lena Luthor’s reappearance was also welcome. It’s nice to see Kara blazing ahead in her journalistic career, creating the perfect ironclad source and not bothering with such silly things as AP styling. Alex and Maggie have built quite the friendship, and there’s just one girlfriend standing in the way of that becoming something more personal
