What I’m Watching: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Season 2, Episode 3 “All Sings Point to Josh…Or Is It Josh’s Friend?” (B)

I’m proud that this show has grown beyond Rebecca’s obsession with Josh into a more dynamic exploration of their two-way relationship, and this episode was involving and momentous but didn’t quite strike the same chord for me. There is no denying that Rebecca’s reaction to her sudden suspicion that she was pregnant was totally crazy, especially since, in just one moment, everything turned around when she did get her period, but Josh’s response was very unkind and not too understanding of the affection that she has for him. Being drawn to Greg makes sense since he actually sees her for who she is, but as a result, he also realizes that she’s too into Josh and can never feel the same way about him, which is likely to trigger a relapse. His dad’s sudden decision to sell the house was a major wake-up call, and he reacted sharply to that information. The airport reunion wasn’t quite as dramatic as I would have thought given this show’s flair for performance, and it’s hard to know exactly what’s going to come next. Rebecca’s loud pregnancy scare was a great and subtle way to introduce the unexpected news that Paula has just received, which is especially unfortunate given the fast-track law school start that Darryl was kind enough to secure for his best friend in the office. I can’t imagine that Paula’s really going to have another child, but I am intrigued to see what she and her newly doting husband decide to do.
