What I’m Watching: Insecure

Insecure: Season 4, Episode 8 “Lowkey Happy” (B+)

I was pleased to learn that, as expected, Lawrence did in fact call Issa right after he ran into Molly at the airport. Issa didn’t want to talk too much about the dissolution of that friendship, and instead we got to see the two of them have a wonderful time together starting fresh and not dwelling on the negative elements that led to the end of their relationship. Issa tripping and faceplanting as she was walking towards him was a humorous start to an equally awkward first course of sorts, highlighted by the clueless guy who stuck his face right in between them and didn’t even bother to notice that he was interrupting them. Things got better after that when they went to the restaurant that Issa had always talked about wanting to try, even though she revealed almost right away that she had in fact been there before. They even managed to have their intimacy threatened by two different exes and still get through it. Lawrence had a blast meeting Calvin and encouraging him to offer up details about how they knew each other, and he was open and honest about what happened with Condola. Inviting her in to see his place didn’t seem to carry with it any expectations, but even after he told Condola that he was going to come meet her, Issa decided she didn’t want to leave. He still wants to leave town, but this old couple officially has a chance of getting back together now.
