What I’m Watching: Ghosts

Ghosts: Season 1, Episode 17 “Attic Girl” (B+)

The idea that there are other ghosts, like Nigel, living on the grounds who, for whatever reason, aren’t around all that often and only awaken under certain circumstances is a clever way of ensuring that, however long this show lasts, new characters can always be introduced and they can either stick around or be swiftly “sucked off” if there isn’t more to their stories. Stephanie was all kinds of bad news, flirting with Trevor because she’s aware that they were born the same year, even if she died as a teenager. Tapping into the ghosts’ frustrations with Sam and utilizing the information the impossibly nice Pete had procured from Sam, she got them to pull a truly cruel prank whose significance none of them realized. At least they all banded together to figure out a way to make it up to her, putting on a spectacular ghost prom after asking her too many questions about how she could possibly have believed that her French date could have been real. The best part was that Jay got to be a part of it, showing up with a corsage for Sam so that she could have the perfect prom experience so many years later. I was excited to see Alberta given a new ability in this episode, especially since I just interviewed actress Danielle Pinnock, who was absolutely wonderful. While she did indulge others’ desires, like Isaac wanting to hear about Hamilton’s death over and over, she’ll probably keep it in check and not cause too many problems like Trevor did when he was online dating Jay’s sister.
