Killing Eve: Season 4, Episode 8 “Hello, Losers”
I’m not sure how this show could have ended in a way that was totally satisfying other than to omit that final moment in which Villanelle got taken out on Carolyn’s orders. I will say that it was very satisfying to see Villanelle and Eve finally express their feelings for each other since there hasn’t been a point at which they’ve both been interested. They got to share a bit of happiness before that final moment, though it likely would have been difficult for them to continue that given the different ways in which they navigate certain situations. Eve was content to dance at the party while Villanelle went around killing everyone, something that it seemed like Eve might eventually be up for but has scaled back since keeping her body count low and only shooting Konstantin in the hand. Pam has become for Carolyn the disciple that Eve never was, loyal to some cause because someone is telling her that, even though she was following Hélène’s orders when she killed the mentor she should have had, Konstantin. We didn’t get major callbacks to dead characters like we did in the previous episode, and I think that’s because this was mainly about Villanelle and Eve realizing what they mean to each other on the precipice of finally achieving what they’ve both been working for in the long run. Knowing that Villanelle is dead and can’t come back is unfortunate given that she was hands down this show’s best character, but it’s been a good run, and I’ve appreciated the evolution of this truly odd but increasingly entertaining and unique series.
