What I’m Watching: Life in Pieces (Season Premiere)

Life in Pieces: Season 2, Episode 1 “Annulled Roommate Pill Shower” (B)

I had almost completely forgotten about this show, an entertaining if not always great comedy from last season that wasn’t locked up for a renewal yet managed one anyway. Now it’s back as part of CBS’ second round of comedy premieres, and though its quality is a bit inconsistent as usual throughout its four segments, it’s just as enjoyable as ever. The first segment was fun because it saw Heather freaking out about Tyler getting married, but the best part was the casting of Clementine’s parents with real-life comedy couple Nick Offerman from “Parks and Recreation” and Megan Mullally from “Will and Grace.” They were very funny, and I do hope we see them again. Both Colleen and Matt both to a good job reacting to outlandish situations, and that’s the best way to describe the roommate segment which just didn’t work all that well. The best part of the pill segment was when Greg and Matt both turned to stare at Tim when Heather remarked that their father’s penis wasn’t all that big. Joan telling John that she crushes up a pill every day for him already was sweet in its own way. The final vignette took an unexpectedly dramatic turn, one that worked well with some fine acting by Zoe Lister-Jones, who I strongly believe is the best performer on this show. Greg constantly spilling on himself was a lighter highlight, as was Heather’s instinct to eat the cake with her hands, which of course led to Greg disturbingly licking it off her finger.
