Emmy Nominees: Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

My predictions: 4/6, picking Michael Pitt and Michael Shannon over Braugher and Goggins

It’s always a shame to me that there are some actors on quality shows that get rewarded who do great work and aren’t rewarded. That’s the case for two Michaels, Pitt and Shannon, whose performances on HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” which earned 18 nominations, were overlooked. Fortunately, their absence does make room for the most exciting surprise of the day - Walton Goggins (Justified), who was snubbed for all of “The Shield” and last year for this show, and miraculously makes it in. I’m equally thrilled for Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), serving as the Best Drama Series’ sole acting nominee. It’s great that both Josh Charles and previous Guest Actor nominee Alan Cumming got in for “The Good Wife,” especially since both of them have much more to do than Golden Globe-nominated costar Chris Noth. Joining them are last year’s nominees, Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age), continuing to hold down the fort for his show, and John Slattery (Mad Men), whose series shows no signs of letting up as it earns its larger nomination total ever.

Who should win? Dinklage or Goggins
Who will win? Tough call. I’m tempted to say Dinklage or Slattery, but we’ll have to see what episodes others submit.
