True Blood: Season 4, Episode 3 “If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin?” (B+)
Things are definitely falling apart in Bon Temps as everyone is all over the place and no one really has any idea what’s going on. The kinder Eric apologizing for “fang-raping” Sookie and then innocently asking her if she’d like to be his is an amusing new side of a formerly cold character. The return of Alcide is welcome, though it’s unclear exactly what role he’ll have in this season now in terms of his relationship with both Sookie and Eric. Pam deciding to exercise vigilante justice on Marnie and by extension Lafayette, Jesus, and Tara, is certainly going to complicate matters and only make things worse. Bill has no clue what’s going on with Eric, concerning himself with the politics of vampires caught feeding on humans on film and adding sex to the equation with the alluring, fast-talking Portia. Jason’s transformation into a panther is taking quite a while, and Andy’s not doing well without him as he lets his craving for V get the best of him while calling Sam out on made-up code violations and almost pulling a gun on him. Hoyt yelling “Don’t you dare!” at Jessica when she tried to glamour him was an unusual show of defiance, but of course she went ahead and did it anyway, deciding that sometimes honesty isn’t the best route. It’s a good thing that Sookie didn’t accept the invitation back to the fairy world from her godmother, though no sooner did she reject it than Eric fed on and killed her.
