Emmy Predictions: Best Writing for a Comedy Series

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14th. Chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees:
Pilot (Glee)
Pilot (Modern Family)
Niagara, Parts 1 & 2 (The Office)
Anna Howard Shaw Day (30 Rock)
Lee Marvin vs. Derek Jeter

The top contenders:
Pilot (The Big C)
Born This Way (Glee)
Silly Love Songs (Glee)
Pilot (Hot in Cleveland)
Earthquake (Modern Family)
Halloween (Modern Family)
The Kiss (Modern Family)
Someone to Watch Over Lily (Modern Family)
Goodbye Michael (The Office)
Fancy Party (Parks and Recreation)
Flu Season (Parks and Recreation)
Pilot (Raising Hope)
100 (30 Rock)
Reaganing (30 Rock)
TGS Hates Women (30 Rock)
When It Rains, It Pours (30 Rock)

The roundup: Unlike the directing category, this isn’t a haven for pilots, so don’t count on the three new shows - The Big C, Hot in Cleveland, and Raising Hope - necessarily showing up. I suspect that Glee won’t make the cut this year, but Modern Family should, maybe with “Earthquake” or “The Kiss.” I’m historically terrible at predicting which 30 Rock episodes will ultimately get nominated, so, presuming at least two nods, since it’s earned two to three each year since it started, I’ll guess that “Reaganing” and “When It Rains, It Pours” get in. Michael’s swan song episode from The Office could make it in, and I think that maybe “Flu Season” from Parks and Recreation could steal a spot.

The predicted nominees: The Kiss (Modern Family), Goodbye Michael (The Office), Flu Season (Parks and Recreation), Reaganing (30 Rock), When It Rains, It Pours (30 Rock)

The predicted winner: Goodbye Michael (The Office)

Next up: Best Drama Series
