Covert Affairs: Season 2, Episode 6 “The Outsiders” (B+)
I’m pleased to see how this episode manages to incorporate some of the elements which didn’t quite work as well in the past and utilize them properly and effective. Reva still being involved is somewhat of a surprise, but having her in this capacity makes a lot more sense and works much better. Though she’s still rather queasy and definitely someone who plays by the rules, it’s fun to see her consistently overwhelmed and somewhat awed by the way Annie does what she does. Getting drunk with her captors and leading them in song was a smart and impressive move, and it’s nice to see Annie really prove her worth every once in a while. I’m grateful that Jai finally had something relevant to do, just as he was almost out the door at an interview about which Joan was most definitely aware. He may not seem like the most effective leader, but that’s mostly due to the unfortunate lack of functionality with the helicopter. I was pleased to see Peter Stormare in a fun guest spot as Annie’s sparring partner for the episode. Danielle managed to nearly cause some problems this episode by finding Annie’s passport and making a big fuss about reporting it. Fortunately, Auggie was able to call Andrew in to step in to help, who proved quite productive and entertaining. I enjoyed Auggie’s excitement at his ability to predict that Annie and Reva had escaped, and it’s great to see that he’s managed to ease back into his role quite smoothly.
