Weeds: Season 7, Episode 3 “Game-Played” (B+)
I’m glad to see that this show is developing pretty well this season and finding its funk after a few episodes. Nancy’s continuing to get amazing amounts of leave time for someone who just failed a drug test, and getting into fights on top of that when her unruly roommate tries to cut short her video-chat with her sister. Nancy definitely isn’t going to take Jill trying to get custody of Stevie lying down, and I imagine that will be a central motivator for this season. It does seemt hat Nancy hasn’t learned anything from her past misadventures aside from her sarcastic retort to Andy of “Try again, fail better,” as evidenced by her jumping into bed with her latest business partner. Nancy wanting Shane to go to college is a positive step, and I like how he’s using his Icelandic citizenship and going to a whole bunch of banks to solicit the best deal he can possibly get on loans. I’m excited by the addition of Lindsay Sloane as secret artist Maxine, and I’m eager to see whether she’s a good match for Andy. Silas definitely didn’t enjoy his role in the artistic performance, but Maxine sure did get plenty overwhelmed by the fact that someone actually stepped in to help. It’s a relief to see Doug finally back on his feet, especially after he didn’t even try to secure himself a job, and I’m hopeful that he didn’t blow this rather royal opportunity to get himself back on track.
