Emmy Nominees: Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series

My predictions: 4/6, picking Katey Sagal and Kyra Sedgwick over Kathy Bates and Mireille Enos

Here we get our first major shock, and in my opinion, it’s not a good one. Last year’s winner, Kyra Sedgwick, got her trophy and now she’s out. In my Emmy musings, I guessed that she’d be out, but couldn’t bring myself to predict that since she’s still so great on the show and it seems silly to cast her aside after she won. Also not joining the lineup is Golden Globe winner Katey Sagal from “Sons of Anarchy,” which is a shame. Instead, we get two newbies from freshman shows. Mireille Enos (The Killing) is here for a show that performed decently with six nominations but no bid in the top category. Kathy Bates (Harry’s Law) is a less defensible choice, mostly here simply because of Emmy voters’ love affair with David E. Kelley. Somehow, Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU) keeps making the cut, and Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) returns as her show finally makes the top race. Then we have the frontrunners, Julianna Marguiles (The Good Wife) and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men).

Who should win? Moss
Who will win? Marguiles or Moss, who will be submitting “The Suitcase,” though I’d watch out for Enos to upset
