Take Three: American Housewife

American Housewife: Season 1, Episode 3 “Westport Zombies” (B-)

I’ve realized recently that I’m watching way too many shows at the moment, and even though this show takes up just about twenty minutes each week, I don’t think it needs to be on my watchlist right now. This episode felt especially like a sitcom, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I think it’s because I watch so few network television series that have holiday-themed installments that it doesn’t feel so common anymore. Katie’s desire to take down Viv because Taylor was idolizing her and spending too much time with her was extreme but somewhat understandable, and both Katie and Viv are pretty exaggerated, each saying things to piss the other off on a regular basis while pretending to be friends. Concluding after Katie cheated by outfitting herself with dozens of flags that Viv’s life was actually pretty sad and Taylor did still look up to her mother was a more dramatic finish than I might have expected, but I guess that’s the kind of thing this show needs. Having Oliver man up to impress a girl only to once again pee himself when he got scored by an admittedly terrifying assault of fake zombies and Anna-Kat kill her own mother because she was really into the game represented the comedy side of things, with Greg contributing his own antics, amusingly acted out by the funny Diedrich Bader. I hope this show does well and may someday return to it, but I’m more than okay saying goodbye to it three episodes in.
