The Flash: Season 3, Episode 4 “The New Rogues” (B+)
Starting out with Leonard Snart was a welcome blast from the past, and it's not clear how much Barry and the team know about his whereabouts following his departure to join the Legends of Tomorrow on a separate CW show. Still, it's obvious that those he engaged with as criminal associates were bad eggs, just the types to decide upon realizing that they could rule the city that they should for no other reason than no one would be able to stop them. The power that Scudder got after being trapped in a mirror was actually very cool, though I can’t pretend to understand the science of how Barry ended up physically stuck in a mirror and Cisco and Harry figured out how to get him out. What’s interesting is that they didn’t actually succeed in that effort, and instead Caitlin used her powers that are really manifesting themselves to cool the temperature low enough to allow him to escape. Finding a silver hair after her shower was a foreboding end to the episode, and it begs the question of whether developing abilities that are inherently sinister has to turn you evil. I enjoyed the search for a new Harrison Wells from the multiverse, and I think that this Earth-19 jokester is going to be a lot of fun. It was sweet to see Jesse and Wally’s relationship developing, and I hope that she’ll be back again soon. Who knew that the PDA between Iris and Barry would prove to be such a stumbling block for their budding romance? I’m glad that seems to be coming to a close.
