Easy: Season 1, Episode 6 “Utopia” (B+)
Now here we go. This was a fun episode that got back to what this show did pretty well at the start, chronicling romance and relationships in their many forms in Chicago (though the location had little if nothing to do with this particular plotline). I’ve been sticking around partially to see actors I know I’m going to enjoy, and this episode had three completely different performers who all fit in very well in this story. Malin Akerman has made a number of movies, tried comedy TV with “Trophy Wife,” and is now succeeding very well on “Billions.” Kate Micucci I remember most from her recurring role on “Scrubs,” and I know that she has also achieved success with her IFC show “Garfunkel and Oates.” And then there’s Orlando Bloom, best known for the “Lord of the Rings” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” series. I would never have put the three of them together, but it actually worked pretty well, with Akerman’s Lucy and Bloom’s Tom just being curious about the dating apps that they missed and wondering what it might be like to try something different. It’s not as if they weren’t happy, and that’s what made this episode light and fun, with Micucci’s Annie serving as the perfect candidate for a sweet-natured threesome. The baby crying and interrupting their fun was cute, and I like that Annie went the last time to give the couple some time to be passionate together. This episode was surprisingly full of nudity and sex, taking full advantage of its Netflix platform. This is what this show should be like, and I hope the final two episodes will take inspiration from this installment.
