The Flash: Season 3, Episode 15 “The Wrath of Savitar” (B)
I’ll admit that I don’t have anything close to a true understanding of the speedforce and how it works, and the episode that found Barry running through his memories is one of my least favorite hours of this show. I can’t comprehend how Savitar exists or came to be, though he does claim that he created himself because, after all, he’s a god. What I do find interesting is Barry’s commitment to trying to prevent a future he’s seen happen by doing things that contradict what he saw, like proposing to Iris so that they’ll be happily engaged and she’ll be wearing a wedding ring, despite Savitar’s unending desire to take her from him. Appearing to Wally and then posing as his mother were great ways to mess with his head, and then tricking him into throwing the last remaining thing keeping him from escaping to freedom into the speedforce worked perfectly. Barry just stood there helplessly as Savitar crawled out of the speedforce following Wally being brutally sucked in, and now he’s on the loose and coming for Barry and everything good, determined to spin him as the bad guy in his own evil narrative. Julian’s return was well-timed so that he could channel Savitar, and I like that he managed to score a sweet, almost platonic kiss with Caitlin that she didn’t mind as they continue to get closer and be on the sidelines of danger, doomed to succumb to the inner darkness within them but determined to stay together and avoid that fate.
