Supergirl: Season 2, Episode 14 “Homecoming” (B-)
The return of Dean Cain as Jeremiah Danvers is certainly a momentous event for this show, and it’s not one whose importance I want to downplay. But to me the biggest issue with all this is that rescuing someone who has been held by Cadmus for fourteen years means that you have to take precautions to make sure that he isn’t re-apprehended or taken out. For Jeremiah to go straight to his family’s home and sit down for a nice family dinner hardly feels subtle, and I think that’s what everyone should have found most suspicious. Instead, first Kara and then Alex were completely blinded by the joy of being reunited with their father and couldn’t even consider for a second that he was leading them into a trap. That this coincided with Mon-El stupidly announcing their newfound relationship status in front of everyone at the DEO, prompting a truly awkward mandate from Hank to go fill out forms with Human Resources. Hank, or rather the Martian Manhunter, being reunited with his old friend Jeremiah was a nice moment, although they parted ways on poor terms, and whatever deal Jeremiah is trying to live up to with Lillian isn’t going to work out well for anyone. Stealing the alien registry is a dangerous move, and that’s going to have disastrous consequences in the near future. I suspect that Winn is also going to be brought into it all in an intriguing way since his romance with his alien girlfriend is only getting closer and more intense.
