The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 16th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Steve Buscemi, Louis C.K., Gary Cole, Jimmy Fallon, Nathan Lane, Bob Newhart
The competition: Three of last year’s nominees are eligible again this year - Steve Buscemi (Portlandia), Louis C.K. (Modern Family), and Nathan Lane (Modern Family), and I’m betting that they’ll all be back. Likeliest to join them are Jon Hamm (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Bradley Whitford (Transparent), and Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live), all past Emmy nominees for other series. It’s possible that Woody Harrelson (Saturday Night Live) and J.K. Simmons (Saturday Night Live) will get a bump from press for other recent roles, probably much more than an old favorite like Jim Carrey (Saturday Night Live). Billy Bob Thornton (The Big Bang Theory), Steven Weber (The Comedians), and Craig T. Nelson (Grace and Frankie) could all contend too, as could past nominee Fred Willard (Modern Family).
The predicted nominees: Steve Buscemi, Louis C.K., Bill Hader, Jon Hamm, Nathan Lane, Bradley Whitford
The predicted winner: Hamm
