The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 16th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Christine Baranski, Joanne Froggatt, Anna Gunn, Lena Headey, Christina Hendricks, Maggie Smith
The competition: This category may well be the most competitive race this year, with five out of six of last year’s nominees eligible again this year (Gunn’s show is off the air). Last year, Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black) and Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) were nominated in different comedy races but now they’re both here and probable to be nominated. Costars Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black) and Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black) might also get in. Ann Dowd (The Leftovers), Carrie Coon (The Leftovers), Sissy Spacek (Bloodline), and Molly Parker (House of Cards) might earn their first nominations, while past nominees Jane Fonda (The Newsroom), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), and January Jones could also show up again.
