Daredevil: Season 1, Episode 13 “Daredevil” (B)
Does anyone else feel like the amount of plot development contained in this one hour could have been better served being spread throughout the entire season? I guess that’s why this show was designed to be binge-watched, since most watched it back in April and didn’t wait nearly three months to see the man in the mask finally dawn his admittedly silly costume and take down the beast that is Wilson Fisk. Matt has become pretty cocky in the time since he first rescued Karen, and egging Fisk on to engage in hand-to-hand combat was an unnecessary show of theatrics that could well have backfired. Regardless of the grandstanding of his performance, there’s no denying that Fisk was an effective villain for this season. Killing Leland even knowing that he had dirt on him ready to be released showed just how furious a temper he has, and it’s a good thing that Vanessa survived this whole ordeal with nothing more than a broken heart to count among her wounds. The end of the episode felt very bow-wrapped and festive, and I’m intrigued to see where season two of this show might go, with Foggy as Matt’s loyal confidante and Karen his unsuspecting assistant. This first season was slow but sometimes got to where it needed to be, and it’s the kind of superhero story that I tend to enjoy, so I imagine that, unless the landscape of television is much different than it is now, I’ll be back to experience season two in just this fashion, one episode per week.
