Grace and Frankie: Season 1, Episode 9 “The Invitation” (B)
Robert and Sol’s wedding was always going to be dramatic, but the twin bombshells of this episode made it considerably more awkward. Part of it was Grace’s fault for inviting Robert over to flaunt her new relationship with Guy, and as a result she could hardly blame him for asking Guy to officiate his wedding (or the other way around?). The request and his acceptance of it were both highly inappropriate, and Grace needs some distance from Robert in order for them to both be able to move on with their lives. Frankie and Sol also achieved an important milestone as Frankie expressed that they really can’t be getting together so casually, and that her coming to the wedding would be a very bad idea. There are four more episodes left this season, and my suspicion that the finale would feature the wedding was confirmed by a quick glance at the episode titles for the rest of the season. I’m sure there will be more drama before then, but it can take on a separate nature as Robert and Sol will experience their problems and Grace and Frankie will experience their own away from their ex-husbands. I liked the latest opportunity to see Brianna try to relax and bond with someone else, receiving some very direct romancing from an employee of hers that enabled her to try out Frankie’s cream and see just how it works. Brianna’s colleagues are all about the gossip, but they don’t seem to be too perceptive about what’s going on around them.
