Emmy Predictions: Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 16th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.

Last year’s nominees: Mayim Bialik, Julie Bowen, Anna Chlumsky, Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Kate Mulgrew

The competition: This category could actually be pretty easy, since only Mulgrew isn’t eligible here since her show is now considered a drama and the other five women in this category seem like strong bets to return this year. I think that Jane Krakowski (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), a past nominee for another show, is the likeliest to snag the sixth slot, competing against Judith Light (Transparent), Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent), Yael Grobglas (Jane the Virgin), and Carol Kane (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). A slew of past nominees could also show up, including Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie), Jane Lynch (Glee), and Dot-Marie Jones (Glee), who is now eligible in this category after several previous guest acting nominations.

The predicted nominees: Mayim Bialik, Julie Bowen, Anna Chlumsky, Allison Janney, Jane Krakowski, Kate McKinnon

The predicted winner: Chlumsky
