Take Three: Mr. Robot

Mr. Robot: Season 1, Episode 3 “eps1.2_d3bug.mkv” (B)

The pace of this show is just incredible – sometimes it drags along and doesn't seem like it's in a rush to get anywhere quick, and then other times it accelerates and changes its entire universe in minutes to be completely different than any of its characters would ever have expected. Hard as he may try, Elliot can't hope to get away from Mr. Robot, Darlene, and that whole group. The leak of allegations that suggest that Evil Corp was directly responsible for the leukemia that killed Elliot's father and Angela's mother destroyed both of them, particularly Elliot with his short-lived outlook on life in which he drinks vanilla lattes and has a girlfriend. The tone changed immediately from humorous, with Gideon stunned to see Elliot drinking Starbucks and things suddenly looking up, to a devastated Elliot bringing damning information straight to Mr. Robot and his enterprise. Simultaneously, Ollie told Angela everything and she made a decision that wasn't entirely expected, ready to risk it all to make sure her life and that of her father are protected. Tyrell is proving to be a fascinating character, so driven by success but not nearly as important as he sees himself. Additionally, though he may crave power and might even seem like the dominant one at home, the final scene featuring indicates that he isn't really the one in control. The idea of people having bugs is an extremely interesting realization of technology as it applies to human life, and Elliot's definition and its connotations are gripping.
