The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 16th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Lizzy Caplan, Claire Danes, Michelle Dockery, Julianna Margulies, Kerry Washington, Robin Wright
The competition: All six of these women are eligible again this year and could well return. The issue is that there are a handful of new contenders who could bump any of them out, namely Viola Davis (How to Get Away with a Murder), Taraji P. Henson (Empire), and Golden Globe winner Ruth Wilson (The Affair). Nominated last year for comedy, Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black) is now eligible here. Additionally, Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) may return for the final year of her show, and both Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Keri Russell (The Americans) have surely come close to earning nominations the past few years and may finally make it this year. I’m predicting Dockery, Washington, and Caplan to be snubbed, but I’m hardly secure about that.
