The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 16th. Please refer to my Emmy musings for this category for a detailed analysis of the contenders, and, as always, chime in below in the comments with any thoughts of your own.
Last year’s nominees: Jim Carter, Josh Charles, Peter Dinklage, Mandy Patinkin, Aaron Paul, Jon Voight
The competition: Two of last year’s nominees aren’t eligible this year: Charles and Paul. Likeliest to compete for their slots are three very different contenders from new shows: Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul), nominated previously for the same role on a different show in this category, Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), and Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers). Their chances are dependent on how their shows are received. Michael McKean is a distinct possibility, as is past nominee Alan Cumming (The Good Wife). After winning the guest acting trophy last year, Joe Morton (Scandal) is now eligible in this race. Other contenders that will siphon votes include Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil), Michael Kelly (House of Cards), and Craig T. Nelson (Parenthood). My bet to fill the final slot is a past nominee whose show just ended: Walton Goggins (Justified).
The predicted nominees: Jonathan Banks, Peter Dinklage, Christopher Eccleston, Walton Goggins, Ben Mendelsohn, Jon Voight
The predicted winner: Goggins
